Hey girl in the mirror, I see you there. Rapidly growing thinner, with the scars and blemishes of "they don't care." Oh how the fears have gripped your heart and your silent tears hurt like a dart. Hey girl in the mirror, I know how you see yourself as inferior. So you change, instead of be. Oh how the voices bruise, use, and push you into those painful choices believing they are all true. Hey girl in the mirror, I hear your whispers of regret. So you draw nearer and inspect how you couldn't fit those glass slippers. Oh how the reality hit that you will always clean out the gutters of your clogged dreams for all your days. This hard life of perfection binding you to cleaning every problem. This hidden life of rejection blinding you from who is sovereign. But through the cracks of this looking glass I grab onto you, broken girl in the mirror. I will not allow these internal attacks to continue on with a pass. But I embrace what is true for you to see clearer in your reflection. I AM making the decision to end the inspection and begin with the King's vision... Hey woman in the mirror, look how you shine when you smile at YOU! For you were hand crafted, perfectly sculpted, by the Potter, who's never made a mistake. You are not blemished, only cherished. For He stays at your side to greet you with a kiss when you awake- there is nothing to hide because He cannot miss a single thing about you! Oh how this King sees beyond the scars and raises you above to twinkle brighter than the stars just to show you His pride and love ALL for you-it's so true! Hey woman in the mirror, dressed like royalty. Delight in the King's dinner for He greatly delights in your beauty. Oh how He placed you here to stand as a Queen and conquer every fear. At this time, this moment, with everything on the line You have come face to face with your internal opponent to expose the lies and deception of this fantasy named "perfection." But look how you have saved you, an entire chosen nation. Hey woman in the mirror I'm proud of you! And how you won victory over the liar. The King knew what was true inside, even with the scars He pulled you further than the distance of the stars. He pulled you in deeper than the depths of the sea. All for you to break free from the past to speak the truth that will last to share and see the reality that you are... The arrayed Woman in the mirror. Preciously, Perfectly, Purposely made, for the King's glory. Now let this be your story, my dear girl in the mirror.

Foundation Scriptures:
“For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well” (Psalm 139:13-14 NKJV).
“…[She] put on her royal robes and stood in the inner court of the king’s palace, across from the king’s house, while the king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, facing the entrance of the house. So it was, when the king saw [her] standing in the court, that she found favor in his sight” (Esther 5:1-2 NKJV).
Personal Thoughts:
These words came unexpectedly. I was planning on sharing an older poem, but started reading through all of my previous poetry. I began to reflect on my writing journey, my life, and suddenly realized just how far I’ve come.
I wrote these words for all of the mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends, for you to see how far you have come on your journey, big or small. And for you to know just how much you are Highly Favored by the Lord!
Society seems to chase after the impossible expectations of perfection, but I am here to tell you that you don’t have to run that race anymore, in any way. Whether that’s perfectionism in your physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual life … or the constant “need” to preform perfectly at school, work, social groups, etc.
You can rest and be assured, that you are “The arrayed woman in the mirror.” You have been chosen and created just the way you are, from your personality to that big dream in your heart-it’s all yours because God made it that way. He loves you for you and that’s what matters, that’s what counts, and that’s what will take you, me, and all of our sisters in the world to our royal positions as Queens for Christ ❤️
This poem was largely inspired by the book of Esther in the bible and I encourage every woman here to take some time to read it and reflect on how much Jesus Himself sees us as His own “Esther’s” of the land 👑 Also, I want to take this moment to tag a couple of special women I have met here on Substack. Women of dignity and prominence that have encouraged and supported me in beautiful ways. You all are all preciously, perfectly, purposely made!
, , , , , , , and many more!! And thank you to my mother and sister (who had the honor of listening to me reading this poem). I love you all ❤️And for those of you reading, if you feel like someone else you know needs to read the words of this poem, please share it! It’s time us women encourage that “girl in the mirror” ❤️
Thank you all for reading and God bless!!
Beautiful. <3 It doesn't matter how old we are, these doubts and insecurities plague us at any stage of being women. Thank you for this reminder, of our true and enduring worth!
Beautiful poem Merissa! And thank you so much for the lovely shoutout! So grateful to have connected with you here ✨
