Dear Readers,
The first poem is something I wrote at the beginning of the year and believe it shows a little bit of my funny yet serious side of my personality, haha. So feel free to laugh or better yet… try writing a poem all about you! (It’s quite fun, actually 😂)
Happy Reading!
Pronouncing “ME”
It’s Merissa
with an “E”
can’t you see?
It’s called
Pronouncing
the name of
a queen who’s
born of the sea.
She’s walking the
streets of Gold
she’s got her own flow
and learns to glow,
don’t you know?
Merissa’s
not a joke
she makes the
demons choke
‘cause she’s been
chosen for
this moment
by the king
Yeah, it’s their
covenant
sealed by the
ring on—
Merissa’s
finger and
her name is
written on
the band like—
there’s no
misspelling
what’s been
spoken, right?
This isn’t a
game, alright?
If you need
to know—just
ask her, bro!
It’s Merissa.
Identity
and Destiny
move with this Queen because
her name is
in a story
called—God with us.
Honestly,
the “M” with
“E” is
Glorious because—
Merissa
walks in
purpose
say, what?
She don’t lean.
Only holds the
pose of a
queen—what do
you mean here?
It’s called
Pronouncing
“ME!”
Wait to See
I cant see
what’s ahead.
So instead
I rest my head
on your chest
and let you lead
me into what’s next.
I cant see
but I believe
in the purpose of
every season change.
When you turn the page
and we leap into
what I never knew.
I cant see
what’s growing in me
but I trust in you
and give you this load
as I walk on this road.
And wait to see
the outcome when
I am home.
Foundation Scriptures:
“Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.”
Psalm 139:16 NKJV
“To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven …
A time to cast away stones,
And a time to gather stones; A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing; A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep, And a time to throw away; A time to tear, And a time to sew; A time to keep silence, And a time to speak; A time to love, And a time to hate; A time of war,
And a time of peace.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1, 5-8 NKJV
Personal Thoughts:
Well, today is my 20th birthday! (Woohoo!) And I have had plenty of time to sit and reflect on these two decades I have been on this earth.
The first poem I shared was something I wrote back in February. I classify it as a silly humor poem, but truly it meant something deeply to me when I first wrote it. I was in a dark season and wanted to remember who “Merissa” is. So, I wrote a poem about myself and all the things God has ever said about me.
The line where it says “Born of the sea” is actually the meaning of the name Merissa. And even though I—ironically—am not much of a beach girl… I have learned and am learning to walk the wild waves of life with Christ.
Also, in case anyone was wondering, the whole poem highlights “misspelling” my name because it is very common, haha.
But it also symbolizes how people may misspell or misunderstand our own identities and destinies. Something I’m sure everyone can relate to in some shape or form. Sometimes we all have to learn how to “pronounce” ourselves and proudly share with others who defines us.
Since the day I was born, 20 years ago, Jesus Christ has defined me by what He wrote in His Book. Which leads into my newer poem, about the changes in life. I’m very excited for this new chapter that is about to begin!
None of us may know what waits for us tomorrow, but it’s all apart of the beauty of reading God’s story for our own individual lives.
Thank you all for your love and support!
